The founder of H.J. Holtz & Son, Inc., Herman J. Holtz established the business in Richmond, VA in 1936. Originally a paperhanger by trade, Herman ran a successful small business of four men specializing in residential and commercial painting and wallpapering. Herman was the owner of H.J. Holtz & Son for 35 years. He retired to enjoy a life of family, friends, golf, and frequent returns to his business. Mr. Holtz passed away in the fall of 2003. His son and grandson keep his legacy alive today.

In 1971, H.J. Holtz & Son, Inc. was passed to the next generation. As the President, Dick ran a company of six men and turned his focus to building a reputation of high quality work and superior customer service, especially in residential contracting. He raised the bar and set the standard by which H.J. Holtz & Son currently operates. Dick also began a strong network of relationships with decorators and other professionals in the Richmond area. These relationships are still in tact today. He is known for his dedication and generosity not only to his business and family, but to his trade organization (Painting and Decorating Contractors of America).

Having joined his father and grandfather’s business in 1994, Rick has been vital in the growth and modernization of H.J. Holtz & Son, Inc. Now President, he has been instrumental in initiating relationships with contractors not only in the Richmond area, but in Charlottesville, Fredericksburg, Williamsburg, and Tappahannock, VA to name a few. He has also added technology to the business and is making the most of modern amenities such as specialized computer software, digital photography, and paint removal equipment. Rick has maintained and built on the strong work ethic and professionalism set forth by his father and grandfather. He is respected for his determination and integrity in his business and with his family.
